Wednesday October 17, 2018-The Ministry of Information Communications and Technology (ICT) has been embroiled in a multi-billion corruption scandal after it failed to explain how more than KSh 16 billion meant for free tablets for class one pupils was spent.
This is according to Auditor-General, Edward Ouko, who revealed that the Ministry could not provide documents to support numerous expenditures running into several billions of shillings.
Ouko unearthed a multi-billion scandal involving high ranking State officials at the ICT Ministry, including CS Joe Mucheru, who were tasked with the implementation of the Digital Literacy programme.
This comes even as education stakeholders have accused the Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, of pumping billion was not well-thought-out.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, had warned Uhuru and Ruto never to implement the programme, arguing that the programme was being implemented it in a hurry and could end up disappointing Kenyans.
