Is RAILA ODINGA’s NASA being genuine? HASSAN JOHO begs UHURU to stop imposing VAT on fuel - Kenyans are suffering

Monday September 3, 2018 - Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho, has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop the introduction of 16 percent VAT on petroleum products.

In a statement to the press on Monday, Joho said Uhuru should suspend the tax to cushion Kenyans from the high cost of living.

The flamboyant Governor instead asked the Government to seek better alternatives of raising revenue.

"I have noted with concern the suffering Kenyans are being subjected to following the increase in fuel prices after the introduction of the controversial value added tax of 16 percent," Joho said.

He said Kenyans are already overburdened by low earnings, unemployment and inflation.

"This would further worsen their livelihoods.”

“While keenly aware of our international and domestic financial obligations, I wish to urge the President to assent to the Finance Amendment Bill that suspends the implementation of this tax,” the Governor said.

Similar calls were made by Nandi Hills MP, Alfred Keter, who urged the President to read the mood in the country and suspend the tax because it will hurt the image of his Government.
