Two NTV journalists arrested for filming RUTO’s hotel in Mombasa, The Dolphin Hotel that has encroached on the ocean

Friday August 17, 2018 - Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho, has ordered for investigations into the arrest of two Nation Media Group journalists who were arrested while filming the construction of Dolphin Hotel in Mombasa.
The NTV journalists were filming the site after residents accused the owners of flouting building regulations.

Joho ordered investigations and threatened a law suit against the developer in a statement on Friday.

“It should be noted that no construction is allowed beyond the 30 metre water mark.”

“There can be no compromise about that because it is the law," Joho’s Communication Chief, Richard Chacha, said.

“If the private developer is found to have contravened the law, action will be taken,” Chacha said.

This is the second time that Dolphin Hotel - a franchise of African Safari Club which has been sold to Deputy President William Ruto - has faced opposition.

In 2017, the construction was stopped after regulations regarding disposal of waste from the site were breached.

The County said debris was dumped on the roadside.
