Thursday August 9, 2018 - The Senate committee investigating the Ruaraka Land scandal has proposed that Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, be prosecuted for illegal dealings that cost Kenyan taxpayers billions of shillings.
The Senate team also wants Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang held personally accountable for the Ksh.1.5billion payout in the Ruaraka Land scam.
According to a damning report released yesterday, Senators are now demanding the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Noordin Haji, and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate and prosecute the duo over the Ruaraka Land saga.
The two are accused of ignoring a quality assurance and standard assessments report that listed the Ruaraka Land as public property and went ahead to pay for it.
This comes even as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the EACC are investigating the two officials to ascertain why they ignored the report that would have saved the country Ksh.1.5billion.
Others recommended for prosecutions over the same include National Lands Commission Chair, Mohammed Swazuri, his Deputy, Abigael Mukolwe, among other senior officials.
