President UHURU mourns nine students killed in horrific accident in Mwingi while en route from a Mombasa trip.

Sunday, August 05, 2018 - President Uhuru has sent a message of condolence to the families of nine students who died in a grisly road accident in Mwingi last night.

The students from St Gabriel Primary School in Mwingi were traveling from Mombasa where they had gone for a trip when their bus was involved in an accident with a lorry.

The bus that was carrying 50 passengers including teachers lost control and plunged into the Kanginga river bed.

Eight students died on the spot while one student succumbed while being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.

Several sustained injuries and were rushed to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital

According to Mwingi OCPD, John Nyamu, the driver of the lorry was speeding and overtaking when the accident happened

The driver of the truck has since been arrested and will be charged with dangerous driving.

In his message to parents and guardians of the students, Uhuru said:

“It’s indeed sad and unfortunate that we lost those we look forward to secure the future of our generation.
