Kenyans pay tribute to the late Nobel winner Prof. WANGARI MAATHAI after Nakumatt Ukay’s demolition.

Friday, August 10, 2018 - The demolition of the iconic Nakumatt Ukay Mall in Westlands by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has been hailed as a victory for the late Prof. Wangari Maathai.
Prof. Wangari was an environmental conservation activist who devoted most of her life in  fighting cartels in Nairobi and beyond who were hell bent on grabbing forests and building malls on riparian zones.

It’s through her relentless fight that Uhuru Park still stands to date.

She may have failed to stop some but the ongoing demolitions of structures erected on riparian and public land shows that her efforts were not futile.

That’s why the demolition of a mall in Westlands which she tried to stop its construction over 20-years has earned her accolades albeit posthumously.
