Kenya on the right track as MIKE SONKO sacks official who approved South End Mall to be build on riparian land on Lang’ata Road

Wednesday August 15, 2018 - Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has suspended a County official who is alleged to have approved two buildings constructed on riparian land in the city.

John Ojwang, an employee in the Urban Planning Department, was sent packing by the Governor for allegedly granting permission for the construction of the South End Mall at the Langata Road-Mbagathi Way Junction, and for Gem Suits in Riverside estate.

The multi-billion South End Mall, owned by former Bobasi MP Stephen Manoti, was demolished last Wednesday for standing atop Mutuini-Ngong River.

Ojwang has now 14 days to show why disciplinary action should not be taken against him, including termination of employment.

“The suspension follows preliminary investigations ordered by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to hold responsible the staff who gave the approvals irregularly,” said Sonko.

Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered for the arrest of Government officials who approved the construction of buildings on wetlands and road reserves.
