I rejected a sh 700 million bribe from corrupt individuals to manipulate evidence - CID Director, GEORGE KINOTI, opens up

Monday August 13,2018 - Criminal Investigations Department (CID) boss, George Kinoti, has revealed how he turned down a Sh700 million bribe meant to manipulate evidence linking top State officials to corruption  scandals.
In an interview with a local daily, Kinoti, who is the sheriff leading the corruption purge, said he was lured to a posh hotel in Kiambu where he was given a brief case with Sh 500 million.

He said he was told that the Sh500 million had been converted to US dollars ($ 5 million) to make it portable.

“I found myself in an awkward position but I decided to leave it at that.”

“But this should serve a warning to others with such thinking that next time, they would be arrested,” Kinoti said adding that the meeting was organised by an MP.

In a separate incident, Kinoti said a group of individuals claiming to be brokers with critical information about the importation of contraband sugar also attempted to bribe him.

He said the brokers secured an interview him and talked about several issues but after the meeting one apparently remained behind and offered him Sh200 million in US currency.

He said he chased the man away and also issued a memo that nobody should be allowed in his office with a briefcase.

“I don’t want blood money.... I am determined to fight corruption to end and anybody that involved in looting should be prepared to carry their cross," he said.

  1. Me, i think i would have arrested the SOB's on the spot and given the evidence to Maragao to jail the miscreants for a very long time.

Why tell us if you never acted? Or the fish were too big to fry? You are the number 2 or 3 in the cop hierarchy for crying out loud!! If you failed to act on spot then keep to yourself afande sir manoti, oh sorry Kinoti!
