I hate to see conflict in South Sudan - RAILA ODINGA says and UHURU steps up efforts to unite KIIR and MACHAR again


Friday August 3, 2018 - Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said he hates to see the ongoing conflict in South Sudan where around 20,000 people have died and over 2 million displaced in the last two years.

Speaking after a meeting with representatives of civil society groups from South Sudan on Thursday, Raila said that the conflict has left many homeless and it is time for South Sudan leaders to unite and make peace.

Raila said the team had briefed him on developments in the country and expressed their strong desire for Kenya to take over the peace process.

"We had hoped that independence in South Sudan would give way to reconstruction as happened in Vietnam and Algeria after protracted wars.”
