Wednesday August 8,2018 - When he nullified the phony election of President Uhuru Kenyatta on September 1st, 2017, Chief Justice David Maraga said “the greatness of a nation lies in its fidelity to the constitution and adherence to the rule of law and above all respect for God.”
Maraga’s mesmerizing quote made him a hero and he was quoted by local and foreign tabloids.
Many Kenyans praised him through social media for the ruling and his choice of philosophic message while delivering the ruling.
However, one year after his landmark ruling and quote, the CJ has been accused of being incompetent over how he is running the Judiciary.
Since the day he took over at the helm of the Judiciary following an appointment as CJ by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Judges and Magistrates have not been observing time like during the tenure of former CJ Dr Willy Mutunga.
According to renowned blogger, Robert Alai, supervision is lacking in the Judiciary and that is the reason why Judges and Magistrates are not keeping time.
“Since Maraga became CJ, courts start very late.”
“Sometimes as late as 12pm.”
“I wonder what is happening.”
“Supervision clearly lacking,” Alai said.
