Saturday August 11, 2018 - There was drama at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following the arrest of National Land Commission (NLC) Chairman, Mohammed Swazuri, Kenya Railways Managing Director, Atanas Maina, and several other suspects over the compensation of land meant for the Standard Gauge Railway.
This is after veteran politician, Ali Chirau Mwakwere, stormed the EACC offices in Nairobi to rescue his tribesman, NLC boss Muhammad Swazuri.
Mwakwere confidently informed journalists camping at outside the offices that he had come to rescue a tribesman who had been arrested.
“When a Kenyan has a problem, when a Digo is in trouble, when someone from Kwale has a problem, I have to try rescue him.”
“I have received several phone calls from Kwale and my people have asked me to come here and see what is wrong with our brother Muhammed Swazuri,” Mwakwere said from his passenger seat inside an SUV vehicle.
Swazuri’s arrest comes barely a day after Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, approved corruption and economic crimes charges against him and several other public servants.
