Thursday August 16, 2018 - Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, has called for a Constitutional referendum to extend Uhuru Kenyatta's presidency beyond 2022 when his term is expected to end as stipulated in the 2010 Constitution.

According to Atwoli, Uhuru is still the best man to lead Kenya even after 2022 and there is need to accord him more time to fight corruption and impunity.

Speaking when he appeared on Jeff Koinange Live that airs on Citizen TV, Atwoli said Uhuru was doing everything right so far, especially on the anti-graft war and therefore there would be no need to replace him in four years’ time.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta is now where we wanted him to be.”

“Come 2022, if he will not have accomplished his mission of 'cleaning up' the country, we will go into a referendum to give him another term," Atwoli said.

If Atwoli’s prayer is granted and Uhuru has an extended stint at the Presidency, it would be a big blow to his Deputy, William Ruto, and NASA leader, Raila Odinga, who are angling to succeed him in 2022.
