Arrests over poisonous sugar begin in earnest as DPP and DCI nabs two - CS HENRY ROTICH and ADAN MOHAMMED are next

Friday August 17, 2018 - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have swung into action and nabbed two Government officials over the illegal importation of sugar that was found to be poisonous and not fit for human consumption.

The two Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) officials were arrested on Friday as the crack down on all who were involved in the importation of contraband sugar began in earnest.

The two Mombasa based officials were arrested alongside an importer and a clearing agent for allowing the illegal sugar through the port.

This comes even as the DCI boss, George Kinoti, and his detectives camped in Mombasa for more than a week investigating the importation of contraband and substandard goods into the country.

It now remains to be seen if Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, and his East African counterpart, Adan Mohammed, will face similar arrests owing to the fact they played a major role in the importation of poisonous sugar into Kenya.
