Saturday, June 23, 2018 - Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director, Charles Ongwae, was arrested in connection with the ongoing probe into contraband sugar in the country.

His arrest came after he contradicted Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi’s claim that the imported sugar had mercury.


Speaking when he appeared before a Parliamentary Committee, Ongwae noted that the impounded sugar had no mercury because they tested it at the point of origin and was found to have none.
