Doctors at KNH come to the defence of their suspended colleague who performed a brain surgery on the wrong patient letter over the matter.

A patient was wheeled to the theatre room and doctors started the process of saving his life only to realize later after opening his head that he was not the right patient for that particular operation.

The confusion was allegedly caused by a mix-up in identification tags for two patients who were supposed to undergo an operation on their heads.

One patient was to undergo surgery to clear a blood clot in his head and the other one had a trauma swelling that was meant to be treated without any surgery.

How the confusion happened is a mystery but KNH continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.

  1. An administrative investigation will find the errors and allocate blame. Right now everyone should not jump the gun! Normally patients talk with surgeons just before major surgeries unless that is possible due to coma or other conditions that makes communication impossible. This seems to have not been the case in this instance, hence the surgical blunder.
