Shock as NURSES ordered to end strike and go back to work immediately or face the sack

Saturday September 2, 2017-Striking nurses have been ordered to end their strike and resume work with immediate effect or face the consequences.

Speaking after a consultative meeting between Governors and Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu, Salaries and Remunerations Commission Chief Executive Officer Anne Gitau and Public Service Commission chairperson Prof Margaret Kobia, Chairman of the Council of Governors Josephat Nanok, who is also the Governor of Turkana, ordered striking nurses to go back to work, declaring their three-month long strike illegal.

The Council of Governors (CoG) gave the nurses until Friday next week to resume work, failure to which they will be sacked.

Nanok insisted the nurses’ Collective Bargaining Agreement cannot be implemented now due to financial constraints.

However, they agreed pay all unpaid salaries and pledged to ensure negotiations continue until an acceptable CBA is reached.
