MUTUNGA fires a salvo at MATIANGI for killing NASA criminals who were protesting UHURU win

Sunday August 13, 2017-Former Chief Justice, Dr Willy Mutunga, has fired a salvo at acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, over his utterances that only criminal gangs are being dealt with during post-election protests.

On Saturday during a press conference, Matiangi denied that live bullets are being used against protesters, saying only criminals were facing the full force of the law.

Mutunga fired back on Twitter saying, "Criminal gangs have rights. Arrest them, charge them in court. State protects the rights of all including the scum of the earth among us."

Angry protests erupted in opposition strongholds in Nairobi and Kisumu areas as the counting of votes from Tuesday's election continued, but the IEBC said the election had been free and fair.

According to Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHCR), 24 people have died since the post election crisis but Matiangi maintained that those were criminals and goons who were looting public property in the name of peaceful protests.

  1. Of the Post Elections Protests and the Raila Enigma: The common phrase “All political leaders”
I am really perturbed by the way people skew their words when it comes to addressing issues of misconduct that touch on Raila Odinga. I have come to this reluctant conclusion though, that local, international and even religious leaders are all confused by the Raila enigma. They somehow fear addressing him candidly on areas of his misdemeanor. Most beat about the bush unfairly implicating the rest of the political class to share Raila’s sins.
I have painfully observed in the media, groups of leaders, religious and others who are concerned with the state of the nation inadvertently using the phrase “ we call on all political leaders” to do one two three . Whereas everyone is aware that the problem is the conduct of the opposition and its leaders, no one is coming out to candidly rebuke the opposition leader and his clout to stop inciting Kenyans, dividing the nation and causing mayhem with his arrogance and pride that he cannot lose an election.
This afternoon I heard Atwoli now blaming the President for not sitting with Raila. My question is, where does the President come in on the issue of the former deciding to perpetrate violence? Is Raila a child not to know what is right and wrong? Come on let’s be serious. The chair of the National Commission on cohesion and integration (NCIC) Hon Kaparo cannot also tell Raila candidly and unequivocally to stop misbehaving, he applied the same generalities of “appealing to all political leaders “
Anyone taking to the airwaves to talk about the current situation hoping to bring us peace and sobriety should be courageous enough to hit the nail on the head. There are no other political leaders in the country causing trouble and mayhem other than Raila and his NASA. So be fair to the rest of us and address your audience with specificity while we here. Do not put every leader in your basket because you either fear Raila or you want to pretend that another person is causing him problems. Tell NASA, tell Raila not “all political leaders and Kenyans”. Don’t be vague in your statements your are not helping the Nation. That I call on all Kenyans to shun violence, which Kenyans? Address the actual section of Kenyans who are perpetrating violence and you know where they are. Don’t make us all bear the sins of a segment of society. That the country is tense, which Nation? Do you know how many square km is Kenya? The nation cannot be said to be on fire because of a few radicals in mathare and kibera. That’s a section of Kenya. So don’t paint our Nation black because of the pride of a few.
I hope after this we are not going to here more of those generalities again. If the enigma of Raila Odinga has confused you so that you cannot tell him to behave don’t go to the media to announce futile and shallow press statements implicating everybody.

    Patrick KM.
