MATIANG’I now targets corrupt universities like Kenyatta University, JKUAT and MOI

Sunday, November 20, 2016 - Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, has warned all public universities that they will be stripped off their charter if they engage in acts of corruption.

Speaking during the first graduation of the Cooperative University of Kenya on Friday, Matiang’i warned that universities that admit and allow unqualified students to graduate will also lose their charters.

Matiang'i also said universities that grant politicians certificates that they are not qualified for ahead of next year’s elections will be not be spared.

The Education CS condemned the rampant expansion of universities and said they will only be allowed to set up satellite campuses after approval from his Ministry.

He said he will not allow university education to be turned into a profit making venture where all universities are opening satellites colleges to capitalize on profit.

Matiangi also said that he will issue a new directive on how universities should operate their private programmes.
