PHOTOs from AL SHABAAB’s dawn attack at a residential area in Mandera that left 6 dead

Thursday, October 6, 2016- Somali based Al Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the dawn attack at a residential area in Mandera County populated by non-locals.

At least six people are feared dead while 27 have been rescued according to Mandera Governor, Ali Roba, who condemned the attack.

"Out of 33 non locals residing in one plot, six were shot dead and 27 rescued by our security officers manning the sector," Mr Roba said.

“Six lives are too many to lose. We condemn the attack which comes at a time when locals had started enjoying peace.”

Witnesses say that the attackers who were heavily armed struck at 2 am when the victims were asleep at the Bula Publics Works plot.

“As they were escaping, they also threw another grenade damaging a nearby building. This was in response to a shooting from a group of Police reservists who had responded,” a senior police officer said.

The militants have vowed to continue attacking Kenya until Kenya withdraws its troops from Somalia where they are part of the African Union force (AMISOM).
