DONE DEAL! Here is our next Deputy Chief Justice as Parliament makes its decision

Saturday, 29 October 2016 - Parliament has approved the nomination of Judge Philomena Mwilu as the Deputy Chief Justice.

On Thursday, the MPs adopted the report by the Justice and Legal Affairs which recommended that Mwilu is suitable to hold the position and voted overwhelmingly in her favour.

“Honourable Lady Justice Philomena Mbete Mwilu, according to the records and information provided to the committee, has never been implicated in any issue that may lead to a conclusion of lack of integrity on her part…the committee recommends that the National Assembly approves her appointment,” the committee reports said.

The committee also rubbished a petition filed by MP, Alice Ng’ang’a, that Judge Mwilu was incompetent and incapable of being the country’s Deputy Chief Justice, citing a past election petition case filed by her.

Judge Mwilu now awaits official appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta before taking over as Chief Justice David Maraga’s Deputy.
