Shock on CHEBUKATI as UHURU trims his powers even after declaring him President

Friday September 29, 2017-President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has sponsored a bill to trim the powers of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati ahead of the repeat Presidential election scheduled for October 26th.

The contentious bill seeks to reduce the powers of the IEBC Chairman and entrench the manual system of transmitting results.

The bill also seeks to make it possible for IEBC vice chairman to act as the chairman in the absence of a substantive chairman. And if both the chairman and the vice chairman are absent, members of the commission would elect one of them as the chairman.

If the changes sought by Jubilee are achieved, then Chebukati would be toothless bulldog as his vice may declare the Presidential result if he refuses to do so.
