KENYA in ECONOMIC crisis following SUPREME COURT 's ruling -SH 500 BILLION has been lost in 1ST DAY

Friday September 1, 2017-The Nairobi Stock Exchange(NSE) has lost  over Sh 500 billion after blue chip shares plummeted following the Supreme Court’s ruling that nullified the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Following the instant drop of shares on Friday, the NSE closed temporary to stop the plummeting.

“When there is a movement in the market beyond a certain limit, we have to stop trading to allow the market to process the information,” NSE Chief Executive Geoffrey Odundo.

He said shares had fallen by the 10 percent limit, which requires a halt.

Safaricom, the biggest company by market cap fell 4.9 percent to trade at 24.00 Kenyan shillings ($0.2328) per share, traders said.

“No one likes uncertainty especially if the uncertainty period is as long as 60 days,” said one of the chief investor who urged Kenyans to brace for tough economic times in the next two months.

Meanwhile, the shilling had weakened by 0.5 percent against the dollar following the Supreme Court’s ruling.

On Thursday, the shilling was trading at 102.7 against the dollar but after the Supreme Court’s ruling it dropped to 103.20/40.
