This student used dried banana leaves to carry shopping to school in Tharaka Nithi (PHOTOs)

Wednesday, 30 August 2017 – Following the ban of plastics in Kenya, this high school student used a makeshift bag made from dried banana leaves to carry her shopping to school.

The creative lady who has been identified as Hilda Gaceri Bundi, a student from Materi Girls in Tunyai, Tharaka Nithi County, has caught the attention of many well wishers who have offered to help her buy a decent bag after her photos started making rounds online.

The form three student created a scene in Nkubu town where she was doing her back to school shopping.

  1. The ban has really affected kids who carry books to school using paper bags. Anyway universities in Kenya should carry out research on how to make cheap biodegradable carrier bags.
