Tana River County rejects UHURU’s ‘secret project and says RAILA ODINGA is their saviorEditor's Choice 01:42
Sunday, November 20, 2016 - The Government of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, has suffered a severe blow in its bid to provide water to Nairobians and its environs.
This is after the Tana River County Assembly rejected the Northern Water Collector Tunnel Phase 1, saying it will negatively affect the ecosystem in the region.
In a heated debate, the Tana River MCAs faulted Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government over the project in Murang’a County, which if implemented would affect River Tana, saying they were not consulted.
The Assembly formed an ad hoc committee to investigate the project and prepare a report to enable it pass a resolution based on technical findings.
The angry MCAs threatened to go to court to stop Uhuru/ Ruto’s water project saying it will benefit only upper riparian communities on Tana River while impoverishing those who live on or around the river banks.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga raised the red flag over the project terming it a ‘tunnel of death’.
