Wednesday, November 2, 2016 - Chief Justice David Maraga met opposition leaders and assured them of free and fair polls in 2017.
Maraga met ODM leader, Raila Odinga, Wiper Democratic Movement party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Ford Kenya party leader, Musalia Mudavadi.
The Opposition had a rocky relationship with the Judiciary during Maraga's predecessor, Willy Mutunga's reign, having suffered a credibility crisis after the 2013 disputed presidential polls but Maraga assured them that he will be impartial during the 2017 polls.
The meeting took place at the Supreme Court where CORD principals expressed confidence with Maraga saying he is a devoted Christian who was appointed the Chief Justice because of his strong Christian values.
“We believe you will be able to assist the country have a credible poll in 2017,” Raila said.
Maraga’s meeting with Raila Odinga has raised eyebrows with many Kenyans saying he might be sensing that he is the next President of Kenya.
