Speaking to the press after receiving the defectors, Bungoma Governor, Ken Lusaka, asked the leaders to remain steadfast in their new party because it had their future in mind.
“Let us be in the Government where the late Wamalwa Kijana left us.”
“You can't succeed in opposition,” Lusaka said.
The defection is a big blow to CORD leader, Raila Odinga, who has been bragging that Western Kenya is one of his key strongholds and even asked President Uhuru Kenyatta last week not to bother campaigning there.
