Sonko has since denied that he made his claim on constitutional grounds but on political, influence and social grounds and is accusing opposition bloggers for editing the clip to tarnish his name.
As the heat continues, Makau Mutua has delved into the saga.
Sharing his opinion on social media on Saturday, Makau said what Sonko did was nothing wrong and warned Kenyans against going back to dark days when somebody was arrested for mentioning the name of the President.
"Nothing treasonous when Mike Sonko says he's "acting president." Harmless loose talk. Let's not go back to Njonjo,” Mutua said.
