Citizen TV’s SK MACHARIA damning revelation about HASSAN & team! What they did in 2012County Politics, News 10:34
Saturday, October 1, 2016 - Even as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials prepare to exit office, another controversy has emerged which may never see them retire in peace.
Royal Media Services owner, Dr. SK Macharia, has accused IEBC Chairman Isaac Hassan and his team of coning him a whopping sh 182 million in 2012 just before the 2013 General Elections in which President Uhuru Kenyatta beat former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in a controversial election that proceeded to be decided by the Supreme Court.
Macharia has filed a petition seeking to recover his money from the IEBC officials before they exit office.
Macharia revealed that the commissioners contracted his company back in December 2012 to mobilize a countrywide voter registration through Citizen TV and 13 other radio stations.
He noted that although the National Treasury released Sh 200 million to facilitate the drive, Hassan and his team never honoured the contract.
The RMS owner, through lawyer Julius Orengo, Macharia, now wants Judge Francis Tuiyott of the High Court’s tax and commercial division to stop the National Treasury from paying the commissioners their retirement money until the electoral commissioners pay the debt.
The commissioners have been given 7 days to respond to the petition and the case will be heard on the October 11.
