Saturday, October 1, 2016 - The war against terror has received a shot in the arm after the US Department of Defence (DoD) gave the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) state-of- the-art choppers to deal with Al Shabaab terrorists ruthlessly.
The US’s DoD has contracted Bell Helicopters to deliver five UH-1 Huey II utility helicopters to the KDF.
Uganda is also set to receive similar number of the hi-tech helicopters before the end of this year at the cost of more than sh8.8 billion.
According to tender documents, the hi-tech choppers and other accompanying equipment which will be supplied to Kenya alone will cost a whopping sh5 billion.
“Bell Helicopters, Ft. Worth, Texas, was awarded a $52,248,119 firm fixed-price foreign military sales contract (Kenya) to produce and deliver five Huey II helicopters, spare parts, programme management, special tools, and other program necessities,” read the statement on DoD website.
The UH-1 Huey II is described as a daily workhorse with an expansive cabin, providing multi-mission flexibility with a standard seating 12 people.
