Four robbers LYNCHED by Kenyans in MeruCounty News 17:36
Thursday 19th September 2013 - Four suspected robbers, two of them brothers, were today morning beaten to death and bodies set ablaze in Meru South.
The incident took place at Kiaritha village, Igamba Ng’ombe area of Meru South District.
The four were flushed out from their hideouts in a crackdown by members of the public after they attacked a prominent businessman as he went to the market.
According to one resident, the men had been terrorizing them all night long and had trailed people who had sold livestock at the nearby Ishiara market to rob them.
Speaking to the media, the area police boss, Kizito Mutoro, said that the business man suffered deep cuts on the head and his distress call attracted members of the public who pursued the gang of about 10 members and caught up with one of them.
They beat him up forcing him to reveal the identity of his accomplices so as to spare his life. He agreed and took them to the suspects’ homes and they were all rounded up and taken to Kiaritha area where they were beaten to death and their bodies burnt.
Mutoro said that those who were killed were two brothers aged 26 and 30 years and two other men aged 25 years.
The police boss said all the deceased had on various occasions been arrested for theft related crimes. He cited that the two brothers were jail birds and had just been released from jail.
Police took the charred remains to Chuka District Hospital mortuary.
