BENSOUDA requests ICC to send Kenya’s Media away from the HAGUE for EXPOSING WITNESSESPolitics 05:50
Wednesday September 18,2013 - International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, has now requested the Trial Chamber judges to ban all Kenyan journalists from airing live proceedings of Deputy President William Ruto’s and Joshua Arap Sang trials at the Hague.
In an application she made before the chamber on Wednesday, Bensouda said Kenya’s media is exposing witnesses’ identity and they should be banned from airing their stories from The Hague.
On Tuesday, social media revealed the name of Ruto’s first witness who has since refused to testify saying Kenya’s media is exposing her name and her family.
The witness by the name Grace Nyakero Githuta was exposed on Wednesday after ICC’s prosecution revealed her friend’s name, Margret Wanjiru Mburu.
However, there is nothing the Presiding Judge Eboe Osuji and company can do short of completely closing off live trial proceedings, thus defeating the whole purpose of former ICC prosecutor, Moreno Ocampo, of making Kenya an example to the whole world.
