Experts now tell Kenyans to relax because Bill targets President, KDF and disabled people.County Politics 05:42
Tuesday July 2, 2013 - Even as the VAT Bill, 2013, that seeks to impose 16% VAT on zero rated goods, is set to be tabled in Parliament today, some tax experts have told majority of Kenyans to relax because the Bill targets specific people.
The expert say, the Bill was purposely meant to tax people who have been enjoying tax privileges and could drastically affect the President whose goods are exempted from tax.
Also to be severely affected by the Bill are the Kenya Defence Forces and any other security agents who enjoy salaries and goods heavily exempted from taxation.
Defence Forces Canteen Organization (DFCO), formally known as AFCO, offers goods to KDF personnel at subsidized prices.
Disabled and physically handicapped people will also lose their tax privileges if the Bill is passed. The group enjoys VAT relief on goods that directly benefit them as a result of their disability.
