SAD: Moi University student HANGS self after family dispute in Makueni

Monday 10th June 2013 - A 3rd year student from Moi University on Saturday night committed suicide in unclear circumstances at their home in Makueni County.

Chester Katuva Muendi, an Electrical Engineering student allegedly hanged himself on a tree at their home after consuming poison.

Sources indicate that the student had quarreled with the mother forcing him to commit suicide.

According to one of his friends, Evans Lumumba, the deceased had left school for holiday and travelled to Nairobi to his brother’s house where he was to spend the long holidays.

However his mother requested him to travel to their rural home in Makueni to help with family work. He agreed and left to Makueni where he took away his life after he differed with the mother over family issues.

Lumumba told the media that the late worked on the farm and after that went and took poison before hanging himself at around 7.30 pm.

Police visited the home and took away his body which is lying at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi waiting for a postmortem examination.

  4. Age issue. A uni student committing suicide due to a quarrel with the mother? Poor clever lives are being wasted and reduced to nothing every day. The sharp minds the nation should rely on in the future goind to waste due to small issues. 8-4-4 system is to blame for all this mess. Kids are being adimeted to campus only to go and waste themselves to suicide and prostitution. Where is Kenya headed? Some1 should do something soon. So sorry to the family for the big loss.
