Friday June 28, 2013 - President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday appointed Jane Waikenda as the new Director of Immigration Services.
Waikenda, a career civil servant, has 100 days to change what has traditionally been the Ministry of Immigration.
Speaking after taking over the office at Nyayo House on Thursday, Waikenda said screening of persons seeking vital documents including foreigners will be computerised to get rid of illegal immigrants who are hiding in Kenya.
Waikenda informed the departmental heads that President Uhuru Kenyatta is concerned with the influx of dangerous foreigners in the country many of whom have Kenyan passports.
She also said Uhuru is concerned that many Somalia citizens and other dangerous people could have obtained Kenyan passports due to laxity and collusion at the Immigration Department.
Until her appointment, Waikenda was an administrative secretary with the Kenya Police Service.
