KETHI KILONZO is free to vie for Makueni Senate seat- IEBC’s ISSACK HASSAN asserts

Saturday June 29, 2013 - The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman, Issack Hassan, has confirmed that that Kethi Kilonzo was properly cleared as Wiper Democratic Party’s candidate in the Makueni by –election slated for July 22nd.

Speaking to journalists on Friday at his office, Issack said the law is clear that the County Returning Officer, Salad Boru, has the final say on the eligibility of Kethi Kilonzo.

Hassan said the IEBC will only review the decision of Boru if any challenge is lodged within the statutory seven days.

“So far I am not aware of any complaint filed with the commission on the matter. We can only be involved at that stage but for now the law is clear that I am only a returning officer for the Presidential contest,” Hassan said

On Friday, some media stations speculated that there is trouble at IEBC after the final register showed Kethi is not a registered voter.

Kethi is the daughter of late Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo who died mysteriously in April.
