GRIEF as family of Kabianga University student SEARCHES for his body

Wednesday 15th May 2013 - The family of a student at University of Kabianga who drowned last week as he attempted to save his friend is still in grief after their efforts to get his body bore no fruit.

John Masafu Wandera, 22, a second year Bachelor of Science, Human Resource Management student, reportedly went for a swim with three friends on May 4 before he drowned.

For over a week, Benson Wandera Wangila, 53, the father to the deceased has camped along the banks of River Chemosit at Kwa Reuben, 13km from University of Kabianga, hoping to find his son’s body.

The former army officer from Kamusinga in Bungoma County, who now works as an operations manager with a local security firm in Nairobi told the media that everything has come to a standstill since the incident.

They wake up each morning hoping to get news regarding the body of his son but so far nothing has been said. The university had brought in divers from Kisumu but they left after three days when they failed to locate the body and now only local divers are continuing with rescue efforts.

The father of six is appealing to the Government to intensify the search operation so that they could at least give their kin a decent sendoff.
