Dr MUKHISA KITUYI lands a top UN job - Secretary General of UNCTADNews 03:56
Monday May 13, 2013 - Former Cabinet Minister Dr Mukhisa Kituyi has become the first Kenyan to head a United Nations agency as a Secretary General in charge of the United Nation Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Kituyi who was one time the Kimilili MP will simultaneously be appointed as undersecretary of the UN.
UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon is expected to formally announce Kituyi’s appointment at the UN headquarters in New York at a later date.
Kituyi will replace Thailand’s 66 year old Supachai Panitchpakdi, whose second four- year term comes to an end in August.
Kituyi, who is former Minister of Trade in former President Mwai Kibaki’s administration, is a graduate of Political Science and International Relations from Makerere University and he also holds a PhD in social Anthropology, a Masters of philosophy in Development Studies and a Diploma in Science, Comparative Productions, all from the University of Bergen, Norway.
