AKINYI’s ex-husband … Nigerian Chinedu charged with DRUG TRAFFICKING … denied bail

Monday the 15th of April 2013 - A Nairobi court has today charged Nigerian national Anthony Chinedu with drug trafficking.

Chinedu was arrested by police at his home in Kileleshwa on Saturday after they got a tip that he had drugs on his residence.

His arrest was confirmed by Nairobi Area head of CID Nicholas Kamwende;

“He was arrested in his house after we were informed he had drugs that he either wanted to consume or traffic. We found more than 10 grammes of heroin,” said Kamwende.

Chinedu denied the charges before the Nairobi Chief Magistrate today.

The Prosecution requested that the court not grant Chinedu bail and keep him in remand until further investigations are done. The court ordered that Chinedu be detained at the Kileleshwa Police Station as investigations proceed.

This happened as police sources told the Kenyan DAILY POST that Chinedu’s arrest was part of a push by police bosses to clump down on known but ‘connected’ drug traffickers.

Last week the police arrested two men, a Kenyan and a Nigerian, with 300 grammes of drugs in Nairobi.
