As the race to the March 4th general
election continues to take shape with politicians working round the clock to
consolidate support as demonstrated by the recent betrothals and betrayals,
Kenya’s 800m World Champion David Rudisha has called upon politicians to borrow
a leaf from athletes.
Rudisha who was crowned the 2012
Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) on Thursday evening urged the
politicians to compete but give each other a friendly hug at the finish line
and congratulate whoever wins.
In a statement posted on his Facebook
account, Rudisha wrote: "As we approach the elections, I call on
politicians & ALL Kenyans to compete like athletes.
‘If you lose, you pull yourself
together, congratulate the winner & look forward to the next race. Just
like sports, when WE break world records, I DON'T break it for MY people, I run
for KENYA & every other tribe.
This should be the spirit that brings
all of us together as ONE Nation."
